Rubbersidewalks is a modular sidewalk system made from recycled
tires with a
polyurethane binder and colorant, and
is particularly intended for use near
trees. The high-density pavers, anchored
together with self-gripping dowels
and locked into a restraint chassis,
can be removed for root or other
maintenance and then reset, eliminating
the need for concrete breakout and
replacement. The reversible pavers
don't expand in hot weather, and they
absorb and retain less heat than concrete.
The system has been freeze-thaw
tested according to ASTM C1026 with
good performance characteristics
exhibited, and is also ADA compliant
for pedestrian and wheeled traffic.
While the pavers aren't considered
porous themselves, the system provides
immediate drainage at the module seams.
